Walmart is one of the largest retailers in the world. Walmart is gaining its position as a US eCommerce site via retail, websites, and mobile apps. As Walmart continues to build out its marketplace capabilities, the number of approved sellers has been climbing at an increasing pace. This marketplace has been historically cautious about who they allow selling on their platform. Their difficult application process and strict requirements have been a roadblock for many e-commerce sellers. In today’s blog, we will show you how to set up a seller account on Walmart.
Set Up a Seller Account on Walmart:
If you are an established Amazon seller, expanding to Walmart.com is now easier than it has ever been. Being an established e-commerce seller will give you an advantage with your Walmart.com acceptance process because it proves that you have all of the qualifications necessary to sell to Walmart customers as well.
However, To get started and request to sell, simply navigate to the Walmart marketplace application page. The application process takes a few minutes if you have all the necessary information at hand.
Step 1: To become a Walmart Marketplace seller, visit marketplace.walmart.com, and click on the Request to sell as shown in the below screenshot.
Step 2: You will find the Start Application button at the end of the page. Click here for the next step.
Step 3: Now, you need to provide some information to open your seller account. Please check the below screenshot as a reference.
You should have to provide the necessary information:
- US Business Tax ID (SSN not accepted)
- W9 or W8 and EIN Verification Letter from the Department of Treasury that verifies your US business address or place of physical operations
- Address or place of physical operations
- US Business address
- Planned integration method for your product catalog (bulk upload, API, solution provider)
- Primary product categories, catalog size, and related information (e.g. total SKUs you will be selling on Walmart.com initially with verified UPC information and used vs. refurbished, etc.)
Step 4: After completing every required field, we can click on the Review button to check everything before submitting the application.
Step 5: If all the information are okay then you can click on Submit Form to submit the application.
Step 6: Follow the unique link in your approval email (Subject line: Your Account has been created in Walmart Marketplace) to create your Partner Profile. The Registration Wizard will
take you through five main sections: Account Creation, Partner Registration, Taxes (W-9), and Shipping Info.
HINT: You will need a digital copy of your latest W-9 form (or download a blank W-9 during Registration).
Partner Profile: Now, go to the Seller Center to create your Partner Profile. Here, you’ll find a Launch Checklist that outlines the next several requirements before launching your account.
The first item on your list is to complete your Partner Profile. Your Partner Profile is a public page where customers will be able to learn more about you (including your company name, description, logo, company policies, tax information, and more).
If you completed your Partner Profile, the Profile readiness for launch progress bar will reach 100%, and the step will be automatically crossed off in the Launch Checklist.
Item Setup: Item Setup for Walmart Marketplace is the most important part of creating your account that you might expect since this is where you input all your content (pictures, video, long and short descriptions, attributes, etc).
After filling out all required fields, just upload your file to the Seller Center. Once completed, the items in your Seller Center will be moved to Active status.
Test Items and Orders: In Seller Center, select Preview Item to verify content and pricing for any products in Active status. This is what your customers will see, so make sure everything looks right. To test orders, update your item inventory to 1.
Launch Your Account: When you are done, a pop-up message will ask you to confirm that you are ready for lunch with all the items on your Walmart Checklist. Now, you just need to select the Confirm, then this will trigger a launch request.
Please Note: The Walmart Marketplace integration team will review your profile, and if everything looks good, your products will be live on Walmart.com within 24 hours. In some rare cases, you might not hear back from Walmart.com for a few weeks or even months about your application.
Final Thoughts, While platforms like Amazon, Etsy, and eBay are easy for both novice and experienced companies to get their start, Walmart Marketplace is exceptionally selective. The basic criteria for being approved includes having previous eCommerce experience, fast shipping, and excellent customer service—several things that may seem like easy boxes to check off. But you can’t jump the gun here. You must be able to prove that you’re trustworthy and a good fit for Walmart. We hope, this blog will help you to create a seller account on Walmart.
