How to Add a New Category and SubCategory on Shopify

Creating Category

For creating a new category you just need to follow these steps below.

At first, you need to create a collection for the category. Collections are very important. Collections will pass your items in the appropriate category. A manual collection includes the specific products that you choose. The collection will always contain the same products unless you add or remove them.

Step 1: Once logged into Shopify, you can see that on the left side of the screen- Shopify features are grouped into categories that you can use. To create the collection, you need to choose Collections from Products.

Step 2: After choosing Collections, now you have to click on Create Collection. This will take you to the collection creating page.

Now you have to fill-up all the necessary fields. In the Title box, you need to put your collection name. 

In the Conditions, you need to put your collection tag here that you want to create. Also, click on any condition.

Save it. Your collection is created successfully.

Step 3: Here you need to choose Navigation from the Online Store. This will take you to the Navigation bar adding a page.

Now you need to choose the Main menu. you can choose any menu, which one you need. If it’s already featured maybe you can see their main menu, sub-menu.

After choosing the Menu this will take you to the Add menu items page. Here you need to click on Add menu item. In Add menu item you will find Name and Link fields. In the Link field, you will put the exact collection name that you have created previously and in the Name field, you need to put your category name.

Now just click on Add and then save the menu. Make sure you saved after adding Name and Link. 

Now if you want , you can add a sub-category in the created category. Just click Edit on the category. Before creating the sub-category you must have to create a collection for the new sub-category and put the collection tag on the edit field.

You are all set now. Now check your website you will find the new category and sub-category.
