Offering discounts can be a powerful marketing strategy for your Shopify store. It is one of the most effective ways to promote your business by offering customers a discount on your products. To offer discounts, you can create discount codes, set up automatic discounts, or set sale prices for individual products. In this article, we will discuss and show you how to create an Automatic discount code on Shopify.
Before going into the main discussion, you should know there are 2-ways to generate discount codes on Shopify.
- Manual discount
- Automatic discount.
In Manual Discount, you have to set up a discount code. Using the code, customers can get a discount. But in Automatic discounts, there is no need to create or apply any code. Customers can get a discount automatically by adding products to the cart.
How to create an Automatic discount code?
In automatic discount codes, there are 3 types of discount codes available on Shopify. These are:
- Percentage discount: A percentage is taken off the price of either individual products or the whole order.
- Fixed amount discount: An amount ($) is taken off the price of either individual products or the whole order.
- Buy One Get One discount (BOGO): When shoppers buy an item, they receive additional items either free or at a discounted price.
Let us show you the whole process with some appropriate examples.
Step 1: First, Login into your Shopify Store. You will find a “Discount” tab on your left side. Click here to start creating automatic discounts.
Step 2: Then click on “Create Discount” to see the available discount Shopify offer.
Step 3: After that select the “Automatic discounts”.
Step 4: First, write down your suitable “Title” for your discount offer. Then select discount “Types”. You can choose only one active automatic discount at any specific time.
Step 5: To set a percentage discount, please select the “Percentage” from the “Types” section and “add a percentage” to your offer from the “Value” section.
Or, if you want to set a fixed amount discount, select the“Fixed amount” and “add a discount value”.
Step 6: If you want to set a discount for all the products then select “All products” from the “APPLIES TO” section.
Or, you can create an automatic discount for any “Specific collections” of your Shopify Store. Select your collection name by clicking on the “Browse” button.
Select the “Collection Name” and click on the “Add” button.
Or, you can create an automatic discount for Specific products of your Shopify Store. Select your collection name by clicking on the “Browse” button.
From here, you can select a single SKU for your product variation. Select your products from product variation and “Add” them to set automatic discounts.
Step 7: After selecting your choice from APPLIES TO section, Now set the “Minimum requirements” there are two types of requirements one is “Minimum purchase amount ($)” and another one is the “Minimum quantity of items”. Select any of them and jump to the next.
Step 8: Another automatic discount is “Buy X get Y”. You can create two types of “Buy One Get One” discounts from here.
You can offer your customer if they buy 1 product then they will get a Percentage of discount for another product. To run this, you have to select the selected products from Specific collections or Specific products selection.
To “buy one get one” free offer, you have to select the “Free” option from “AT A DISCOUNTED VALUE” and you can set a maximum number of uses per order for your customer.
Step 8: Next is your automatic discount time scheduling. Set a “Start Date” and “End Date” with “Start time” and “End time” from the “Active Dates” section for your discount offer running time. Now click on the “Save discount” button.
Your automatic discount code is set. You can check the status of your discount from the “Automatic discounts” tab.
Now, your customer will get automatic discounts after adding the products to the cart and can enjoy their shopping.
